To get a Medicare card replacement if your card is lost, damaged or stolen:

  1. Online: Log in or create an account on, then request and print an official copy of your replacement Medicare card.
  2. By phone: Call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY: 1-800-325-0778).

    In addition to the two methods above, you can order a replacement Medicare card from the Social Security administration directly.

    1. Log in to your Social Security account.
    2. Click on "Replacement Documents."
    3. Select "Mail my replacement Medicare card."
    4. Ensure your address is current, then submit the application.

    Within a few days, your new plastic card will arrive in the mail, complete with your Medicare number and coverage details for both Part A and Part B.

    Don't panic if you lose your Medicare card. You can request a letter from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) to serve as temporary proof of coverage.
