Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) does not cover prescription drugs, including the self-injected biologic medication HUMIRA.

If you require Humira for the treatment of an arthritic or psoriatic condition, you may be able to get Humira coverage through Medicare Part D (prescription drug plan).

You can compare Part D plans available where you live and enroll in a Medicare prescription drug plan online when you visit

Does Medicare Cover HUMIRA?

HUMIRA helps relieve joint pain, treat inflammatory arthritis and clear up chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis. It is administered by an injection under the skin, about once every two weeks.

Original Medicare does not cover HUMIRA. However, Medicare beneficiaries have the option to enroll in a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Medicare Part D) for drug coverage. Many Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans may provide coverage for HUMIRA.

Is HUMIRA Covered by Medicare Part D?

Humira may be covered by Medicare Part D. Because Medicare Part D plans are sold by private insurance companies, your drug coverage and costs can vary.

You should contact your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) for more information on Medicare drug coverage options in your area. When you do, be sure to get details on:

  • Whether your Part D plan covers HUMIRA

  • How much it will likely cost with your Part D coverage

  • What network of pharmacies and suppliers your plan uses

Is HUMIRA Covered by Medicare Part B?

No, Medicare Parts A and B do not cover Humira or most other prescriptions.

Eating Healthy to Fight Arthritis

Certain foods can help support joint health and fight inflammation caused by arthritis. These foods include leafy green vegetables, olive oil, nuts, fish and more.

It can be helpful to follow a diet that helps to fight inflammation, as the nutrients you get from these foods can often reduce some of your joint swelling and pain.

Find Medicare Supplement Plans That Help Cover Your Arthritis Treatment

If you receive arthritis treatment that is covered by Medicare, you may likely face out-of-pocket Medicare costs such as deductibles, coinsurance and copayments.

A Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) plan can help cover some of these costs.

For example, each of the 10 standardized Medigap plans that are available in most states provide at least partial coverage for the Medicare Part B coinsurance or copayments you might face when you receive covered outpatient treatments.

A licensed agent can help you decide on a Medicare option that works for you. Call today to speak with a licensed agent and compare the Medigap plans that are available where you live.

HUMIRA Medicare Costs

Subsequently, a 2020 study reported that the monthly expenses for Humira had escalated to $5,168. Notably, the cost of a 20-milligram injection surged from $1,895 in 2010 to $5,300 in 2019 according to the findings.
