When Does Medicare Cover XARELTO?

If you receive health care coverage through Original Medicare (Part A and Part B), XARELTO is not covered by Medicare Part B. Original Medicare does not typically cover prescriptions.

There are 2 options you may be able to consider for Medicare prescription drug coverage:

  • You may be able to enroll in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan that covers Xarelto.

  • There may be Medicare Advantage plans in your area that include Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage. One of these Part C plans may cover Xarelto.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 89% of 2024 Medicare Advantage plans cover prescription drugs.1

The availability, costs and the drugs that are covered by Part D plans and Medicare Advantage plans may vary  based on where you live.

How Much Does XARELTO Cost With Medicare?

According to GoodRx, the average copay costs for XARELTO averaged anywhere from $19 to $21 in the deductible coverage phase for Medicare prescription drug plans in 2023.2

Because Medicare Part D plans and Medicare Advantage plans are sold by private insurance companies, your XARELTO coverage and costs can vary.

Your copay and deductible costs for any prescription drug can vary depending on what coverage stage you’re in and what type of Medicare drug plan you have.

Find Medicare Supplement Plans That Help Cover Your Heart Health Costs

Even with Medicare prescription drug coverage, you may still be responsible for out-of-pocket Medicare costs such as deductibles, copayments and coinsurance for your Part A and Part B services related to treatment for blood clots and other coronary issues.

A Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) plan can help cover some of these costs.

Each of the 10 standardized Medigap plans that are available in most states provide at least partial coverage for the Medicare Part B coinsurance or copayments you might face when you receive covered outpatient treatments.

A licensed agent can help you decide on a Medicare option that works for you. Call today to speak with a licensed agent and compare the Medigap plans that are available where you live.
